In their customary monthly wont, China’s Center for Information and Industry Development (CCID) – a division of China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology – released an update of its existing Global Public Blockchain Technology Assessment Index (GPBTAI) on Dec. 20. The CCID’s recent update, which happens to be its 8th update so far, depicts the state of most public blockchains in the global crypto ecosystem.
The CCID assessed various digital assets based on some factors such as their applicability, technical realization level, and innovative role. The results of the assessment showed that EOS is the big hotshot of cryptocurrencies, irrespective of the factor being analyzed.
EOS maintained the first position in most categories, with a total score of 156.1 points and Ethereum followed closely behind with a score of 136.4 points. And next along comes GXchain, which knocked BitShares out of the third position with a total assessment score of 117.5 points and BitShares humbly occupied the eight position with a score of 110.8 points, leaving the Bitcoin (BTC) on the eighteenth position with a total assessment score of 96.1.
Surprisingly, some of the newly launched digital currencies found their way into the chart and some of them performed so well that they ranked higher than most cryptocurrencies that have been in the block for quite some time. One of such new promising digital coin is Ontology (ONT) which maintained the fifth position, scoring as high as 112.6 as its total assessment score.
Assessing the function, security, performance, and decentralization – basically, the technical realization level – of digital currencies placed EOS, BitShares, Steem, Gxchain, and Ontology as the top five among cryptocurrencies.
Within the category of applicability, Ethereum, Neo, Ontology, Nebulas, and Qtum occupying the first to fifth positions respectively. The rapid growth of Ontology is once more displayed in this category as it successfully replaced Dash, which was one of the top five in the last CCID assessment. The assessment was performed by analyzing their support for practical applications, which includes development support, node deployment, application implementation, and wallet application.
The top five on the basis of innovation are Bitcoin, EOS, Ethereum, Komodo, and Cardano. Comparing this ranking with the previous index, Komodo, Sia, Gxchain, Bytecoin, and Nebulas proved to be the digital assets with the largest increase in the innovation sector. The assessment was made based on the role they played innovation-wise, which includes code update, developer size, and code impact; and at least in terms of impact, Bitcoin has no real competitors.
