Dr. Nouriel Roubini: Crypto Is Worse than North Korea, Vitalik Buterin “Dictator for Life”

I like Dr. Nouriel Roubini. Yes, in spite of his blatant anti-crypto stance. Even if and when you disagree with him (which happens to occur quite a lot), he always makes at least some good points which make you wonder and think. Thinking is important, or at least that’s what I’ve heard.

But now, the globally renowned economist who had famously predicted the 2007-2008 financial crisis seems to went off the rails – and not because some typical harsh critique of the cryptocurrency industry, which would have been just fine and even thought-provoking. Dr. Nouriel Roubini compared crypto and Bitcoin to… the tyrannical and cruel regime of North Korea.

Damn! Those are some serious charges! Decentralization is a myth? Bitcoin is worse than North Korea? Vitalik Buterin (co-founder of Ethereum) is a dictator for life? What the hell, Roubini? Are serious? You must be jesting… right?

Okay, so apparently not only that Roubini doesn’t jest, but that he also doubles down on his virulent accusations: yes, it wasn’t some sort of prolonged odd typo – Vitalik Buterin is a dictator for life and crypto is even worse than the (actual dictator, mind you) despotic ruler of North Korea, Kim Jong-un.

But, come on, Roubini… are you really comparing crypto to North Korea? Are you really now? Are you really?

All right, so I guess he really does…

On October 11, Roubini is scheduled to testify before the U.S. Senate Banking Committee Hearing about the general topic of “Exploring the Cryptocurrency and Blockchain Ecosystem.” It certainly seems like we’re going to witness how and why “Dr. Doom” received his ominous nickname…
